Why Does Saliva Kills Sperm?

Let’s debunk the myth!

Sorry to spoil fun. Saliva isn’t exactly sperm friendly and has been found to have slight spermicidal activity and antibacterial effects. Research from Fertility & Sterility Journal found that when saliva was added to normal semen, it induced a “shaking movement” in 12 percent of the total sperm population {1}. It only happened in high concentrations of saliva, but researchers did find that their progression and sperm motility (their ability to swim) was significantly reduced! Their conclusion was that saliva had a “deleterious effect on sperm motility and activity” and should not be used as a vaginal lubricant.

So save the oral sex for days when you’re not ovulating 

Other Lubricants to Avoid!

 A UCLA study published in 2013 found that women who used petroleum jelly or baby oil as a lubricant were more likely to end up with bacterial vaginosis or a yeast infection. If you are prone to candida steer clear of both.

Researchers found that KY alters the pH balance of the vagina and immobilises sperm, literally stopping them in their tracks.

If you do use a lubricant, please choose one that’s been shown in studies to be safe and sperm-friendly!
